this is a super closeup shot of computer CPU (or 0.01% of the whole CPU). this particular area shows a mish-mash of wires criss-crossing and refracting light into a rainbow of colours. the micro-wires are so tiny that over 48,000 of them can lay side-by-side within an inch and have plenty of room for insulation in between (as best as we can measure - it is really small stuff in there).

Oriental Orchids
A very excited neighbor boy brought this to me one day and wanted to know if I wanted to shoot it. I went inside and got a good macro lens and started to set up next to a nearby boulder. The young man coaxed the mantis from the carrying stick onto the boulder and I began getting ready. To my surprise, it made a very nice pose, turned its head to face me, and just sat there patiently while I took readings and captured this shot.

Last Day of Winter
It was late in the day and I had been shooting a garden until my surroundings became dim. On my way out, I passed by a patch of primrose flowers next to a large boulder. I was amazed at their vibrant glowing colour even though the surroundings were in dull evening light. Being reasonably certain that they were not battery-powered, my only rationalization was that these petals were made of the same fluorescent substance on firefly tails. I returned the next day to shoot them in bright sun, but the flowers appeared quite average. So, I waited until they were once again in the dim evening shade and captured their neon colours on film.
