Ruffled Iris
This is truly in the middle of nowhere and reachable only by foot (or perhaps parachute). It's hard to believe that rock could form in such fluid shapes but it sure makes for a great find for those willing to bare the elements of the desert.

Waves of Rock
an assortment of brightly-coloured algae reflect in the steam rolling off a large hot spring.

Steam
these large birds appear to have infinite patience as they stand motionless for hours waiting for their meal to swim by.

Blue Heron
although usually a moisture-loving plant, i found this one in Arizona. i think its roots must have tapped a nice hidden water supply.

Morning Hearts
Having such a small body and graciously long wings, the Tiger Longwing doesn't flap quickly like most butterflies. Instead, it creates a very elegant slow-flutter to navigate through the rain-forest foliage in Brazil. It's motion is very different from what i'm accustomed to in the northern hemisphere, and i found it quite mesmerizing.
