Branch The minerals in the lake water cause it to be abnormally blue and clear. I can see straight to the bottom where lie many fallen trees that seem not to decay or dirty the water. As I hiked around these lakes, I really enjoyed the wavy branches that overhung the water like this one. The colours and shapes complemented each other quite well.Download: 1024x768 Wallpaper |

Layers of Colour This is an up-shot of some colourful scale-shaped rock layers on the side of large cliff. To capture this amazing natural art, i had to setup as low as possible to get enough room between the camera lens and rock layers. There was just enough room for me to lay on the muddy ground and get my head in place to see the focus screen and prepare for the long-exposure.Download: 1024x768 Wallpaper |

Metro Rock After a day-long adventure in the wilderness area of southern Utah, it was time to head back to the car. I commonly take a different path back to see more and different terrain, and this time it paid off. I came across a few boulders that had the most unique patterns that I had ever witnessed in natural stone. Tall veins protruded out from the surface forming a grid-like texture, reminding me of a metro area from above.Download: 1024x768 Wallpaper |

Hillside Trees Normally, forest views like this are impossible, as you can't see much of the second row of trees due to the first row blocking the view. In the mountainous parts of eastern Pennsylvania, they have forests on tall steep hills, so if you're on a neighboring hill with an opening, you can easily get a great shot like this.Download: 1024x768 Wallpaper |

Locust Leaves I'm walking along a bridge in northern Kauai and notice the tree tops are at eye-level for easy shooting. I pan around for the best cluster of Locust branches and then patiently wait for the slightest of breezes to pause long enough to capture this shot.Download: 1024x768 Wallpaper |

Turmoil I'm precariously hanging over a sheer cliff so that i can capture a straight-down perspective of the ocean waters below. With my assistant faithfully hanging onto me and acting as a counter-balance for the camera gear hanging over the edge, I watch for the best mixture of rock and swirling waves to squeeze off this shot.Download: 1024x768 Wallpaper |

Shrub Survival This photo demonstrates that plant life will adapt and survive whenever possible. These bushes are determined to grow in the cracks of this jagged wall of rock. For viewers, like myself, it made a sensational view with the unique combination of the softer more rounded shaped bushes that were evenly spaced amungst the sharp edged rocky terrain.Download: 1024x768 Wallpaper |

Pink Petals i've been scouting around for a perfect rose shot - which for anyone whom has tried this, understands the challenge - there's almost always some imperfection or imbalance that keeps one searching for something better. i happen to find these three pink roses in a row and focused on the perfect pattern of soft pink petals on the center bloom.Download: 1024x768 Wallpaper |

Vignette of Trees I was hiking through the Huan Valley and noticed just how quickly the temperature can change within a couple hundred meters of elevation. Less than an hour ago, I was hiking in snow and now I barely require a jacket. As I look at the surrounding mountain slopes, I notice a unique vignette of tree types and colours as the elevation changes. It was too interesting of a pattern to not capture on film.Download: 1024x768 Wallpaper |

Smoke Tree Although this can commonly grow into a tree it is officially classified as a shrub (cotinus coggygria) from Eurasia, and a really cool shrub at that. This was my first encounter with one of these and I was delightfully amazed with its colours. The leaves were a grape-purple on the top side with a more common greenish underside. When the sunlight shown through the leaves, they lit up a brilliant red, adding another odd colour to this unparalleled plant. I made sure to capture this wonder of colour on a bright sunny day with an equal amount of leaves showing their upper and lower hues.Download: 1024x768 Wallpaper |

Ouch During my hikes through various wilderness areas throughout Arizona, I can honestly say that I have been stabbed by a wide variety of plant life. This land has its own sort of beauty, but can also defend itself quite well. The liberty of backing up a few steps or moving over just a little are often greatly restricted to how much pain you wish to endure in the process of getting a better picture.Download: 1024x768 Wallpaper |

Colour Waves i've been looking for a pattern in water like this for some time. Trying to find a place when the water has just the right size ripples and the proper light and reflections, then be able to place a camera on something solid to capture the special event, can all lead to be quite a task.Download: 1024x768 Wallpaper |

Sequoia Bark I enjoy capturing what I call "texture shots" - natures version of abstract art made entirely of natural elements. This happens to be of a medium-sized sequoia tree as I felt it had more interesting bark than the giant trees. The subtle patterns and details within this bark are a pleasure to study.Download: 1024x768 Wallpaper |

Orange This is merely a piece of fruit that is moments before becoming my breakfast. For some reason, I became intrigued with the outer texture and found myself examining it with every available means of magnification. It didn't take long before I was posing the fruit in a beam of morning sunlight and setting up a macro lens to capture this texture.Download: 1024x768 Wallpaper |

Primrose It was late in the day and I had been shooting a garden until my surroundings became dim. On my way out, I passed by a patch of primrose flowers next to a large boulder. I was amazed at their vibrant glowing colour even though the surroundings were in dull evening light. Being reasonably certain that they were not battery-powered, my only rationalization was that these petals were made of the same fluorescent substance on firefly tails. I returned the next day to shoot them in bright sun, but the flowers appeared quite average. So, I waited until they were once again in the dim evening shade and captured their neon colours on film.Download: 1024x768 Wallpaper |

Waves of Sand 2 Reminding me of brain coral in a reef, these ripples were photographed at the top of the giant sand dunes in Colorado. As the sun rose over the San Luis Valley, incredible patterns of light and shadow emerged before my eyes. One moment, there was undefined darkness, the next moment, there were detailed patterns dancing across the sand. These patterns were in constant flux, and the ground was alive with motion. Within a brief hour, the spectacular event was over. I gathered my equipment and began my encumbered two-mile journey back to level ground.Download: 1024x768 Wallpaper |
